Welcome to the South Hams Friends of the Earth Website. South Hams is in South Devon and covers the area roughly in between Plymouth, Torbay and Dartmoor. This is a website specific to that area and it gets updated whenever I have time.
Our AGMs in 2012 and 2013 were all about bees and we have been working on the bee campaign and other things too. In 2014 we looked at Fracking. Check out the relevant pages for more information on what we’ve been doing.
We are currently involved in the anti incinerator campaign in Plymouth, and supporting the Buckfastleigh campaign to stop toxic Incinerator Bottom Ash being dumped at Whitecleave Quarry. The planning decision to refuse consent for an IBA dump was taken to appeal, and the appeal was won by the good guys! The Whitecleeves Quarry page has info on MVV’s attempt to use the quarry as an IBA dump and there is more information on the campaign at http://www.community.buckfastleigh.org
The New England Quarry planning application for an incinerator was refused and Viridor no longer owns the quarry so the threat of incineration there has gone; but in Plymouth it’s a different story unfortunately.
Background information on NEQ is available on the New England Quarry page – hover over the incineration page for a sub menu.
We are also involved in local planning, pressing South Hams District Council to enforce developers to adopt sustainable construction techniques.
Visit Friends of the Earth nationally for information on national campaigns.
Look at the pages on the top of the screen for an overview – some pages have sub pages!
New information is posted in “Posts” and then transferred to the relevant page as necessary.
